Frequently asked questions

From day one. Our mats are soft enough for newborns and designed to be used from the moment you bring your baby home. The double layer of padding provides a comfortable, supportive surface for even the earliest floor time.

As your baby grows and begins to roll, the raised edges help keep them contained within the mat, giving you a little more peace of mind during independent play.

And it grows with them. Remove the poles at around 14-16 months and it becomes a generously padded play mat for your toddler, somewhere for them to read their books or play with their toys.

Ninety-nine percent of the time it will be in your living room — which is exactly why we design them to be something you actually want to have in your space. You must place your baby play mat on the floor (not a raised surface). Avoid placing it directly next to furniture with sharp corners or within reach of cords and cables.

Floor time (i.e. time spent away from bouncers, rockers, and carriers) is one of the most valuable things you can give your baby in those early months.

Time on the floor encourages babies to move freely, build strength in their neck, core, and arms, and begin to explore their environment on their own terms.

It supports the natural progression of motor development, from lifting the head to rolling, sitting, and eventually crawling.

Even short periods of unstructured floor time each day make a meaningful difference.

A baby's skin is significantly more absorbent and sensitive than adult skin, which means what's next to it matters more than most people realise. Natural fibres like linen and cotton breathe with the body, regulating temperature and allowing airflow — reducing the likelihood of overheating or skin irritation. Synthetic fibres like polyester trap heat, don't absorb moisture, and can contain chemical finishes that sit against the skin for extended periods.

Our baby play mats are machine washable. Remove the poles and pop the whole mat into your washing machine. Wash on a cold, gentle wash and lay flat to dry (over a drying rack in the shade is best).

The toys can also be machine washed. Spot clean the arches with a damp cloth and some liquid spot cleaner.

  • Handmade in Melbourne

Designed and sewn in Australia by skilled hands. Each mat is made with care - never mass produced, never rushed.

  • Built for little bodies

Extra padding, bolstered sides, and a generous 1m × 1m - soft enough to land on, spacious enough to grow into.

  • Kind to skin

Cotton or linen on the outside, hypo-allergenic polyfill or 100% wool within. Every fibre chosen with your baby's skin in mind.

A safe place to begin, from the ground up

The first months of play are more important than they look. Floor time builds the strength, coordination, and confidence your baby carries into every stage that follows. The right surface makes all the difference.

  • Recommended from birth

Australian guidelines recommend building to 30 minutes of tummy time daily - starting from just one or two minutes at a time.

  • Builds strength, stage by stage

Tummy time strengthens neck, shoulder, and core muscles - the foundation for lifting, rolling, sitting, and crawling.

  • Supports sensory development

Texture, contrast, and visual interest on the mat naturally encourage reaching and looking - building hand-eye coordination from around six weeks.

  • One surface, every stage

From tummy time to sitting to independent play - the mat grows with your baby through the first two years and beyond.
